Genesis Power, Poutu Dam Upgrade
This contract was broken into three sections. The initial work involved the design, fabrication and installation of a coffer dam. This enabled us to completely overhaul the mechanisms that operate the Poutu dam spillway gate. New hydraulic rams and lifting gear were fabricated, modified and installed. We also designed, fabricated, installed and commissioned the complete gate electrical and automation control system.
The coffer dam measured 12.7m x 5.0m x .53m and weighed approximately 17 Tonne. It was required to be floated into position, secured to the dam walls with hinges and then sunk to achieve a water tight seal around the spillway gate inlet.
Once de-watered, modifications were carried out on the spillway, to convert it from mechanical operation to hydraulic operation.
At the completion of the contract the coffer dam was re-floated and removed.
