Cut and Fold
Stewart and Cavalier has the ability to cut and fold metals on site.
Cutting and folding is the process of forming materials in to shapes as part of a manufacturing process, this can be done by a few methods. Stewart and Cavalier do this by utilising a plasma cutter, a guillotine, and a brake press.
The profile cutter employs computer technology to convert drawings to cut the predetermined shapes efficiently and minimal waste. The guillotine cuts through the materials using a shear action attached to a large hydraulic ram, the guillotine uses line of site technology that allows the operator to accurately cut the material thus reducing waste.
Plasma Cutter – Cutting Capabilities:
The brake press uses a computer numerical controller to convert drawings or keyed instructions to foldable angles, the process manipulates the material by use of a hydraulic press and formers. The brake press sequences the folds to optimise the process, reducing the time required and making the operation more efficient.
The onsite guillotine has the ability to cut 12mm thick mild steel. Stewart & Cavalier also has a Kinetic (plasma) profile cutter capable of cutting mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium with a cutting area of up to 1500mm x 3000mm.
Stewart and Cavalier have a newly acquired Durma AD-S 43220, 220 ton, 5 Axis CNC brake press. With the AD-S Hydraulic Brake Press, part bending is precise and accurate. Durma is the world’s best press break due to its programmable control unit, stable frame, quality design and different options. This ensures quality work. The press brake can press material 4.3 m long, and the brake press has automatic crowning that compensates for any deflection during the bending process, thus reducing the possibility of distortion in the material.
Brake Press Folding Capabilities:
The CNC brake press allows for quick production of simple one off projects and the streamlining of complex production line components. The press can fold a large range of angles and create the shapes required using the Delem (CNC) Controller. The drawings are loaded into the computer by the operator and the CNC sequences the folds to be ergonomic and save on folding time, thus reducing costs. By changing the Vee tooling to suit the type and thickness of the material, the brake press will give a precise fold every time.
