About This Project

In this project our specialist engineers provided a strain gauge for a tanker working on New Zealand’s iron sands.
The client required precise instrumentation, installation and a fast turnaround as they needed to prove to Maritime New Zealand that the vessel could be operated safely in large swells, which are regularly greater than two metres. A strain gauge is a device to measure resistance changes and is very useful for measuring stress, force and pressure etc. This particular strain gauge needed to measure the tension on the rope between the bollard and the buoy.
This is just one example of the numerous engineered solutions we have provided for the shipping industry, having worked on tankers, container ships, freighters, transporters – all kinds of ships and vessels.
