The difference between success and failure is a great team

The difference between success and failure is a great team

In my last post I mentioned the importance of team spirit in our organization. We love to foster a cohesive approach to our work and there is no better place to do this than on the golf course.

Stewart Alexander Golf Club is just 6km outside of Te Awamutu. It’s a superb 9 hole course on a rolling contour with rural views. Our staff and some of our suppliers, hit the greens for an Ambrose Tournament fun day. I restricted my driving to the golf buggy, keeping the players supplied with refreshments and checking on their progress!

We’re engineers so we like to get our hands dirty. After all the golfing, we were hanging out to get our hands on some power tools. Time for an electrical pole dressing competition. As New Zealand agent and distributor for Morse Power, Stewart & Cavalier supplies aluminium pole stands to the NZ power companies.

This product was designed to combat safety concerns about manual handling in the power industry. They are lightweight, durable and just as strong as the traditional tripod. The flat pack design is the perfect solution to the storage issues many of our clients face.

Stewart & Cavalier collaborated with Morse Power to modify the design of the original Australian pole stand for the New Zealand market. The original stand was designed for a round timber pole but in certain parts of New Zealand, these poles are being replaced with rectangular concrete poles and often two of these doubled up or bolted together. Double square poles stands are now a stock item in two different heights (500mm and 800mm) and single square pole stands are available on request.

Because they are made to be operated by a single person, the round pole stands lend themselves to a timed competition. The challenge was taken up by Shane Dolan from X3L, Andrew Carter, Chris Hancox, Nick Elliott and Brad Sharp all from Stewart & Cavalier. Nick won, dressing a pole in a time of 1 min 48 seconds.
